Programs

The programs described below are offered for the growth and development of our children, their families and the local community. Click to learn more.

Network and support system for families

We provide support services at Tesoros de Dios that promote a naturally-formed network between families. Services and activities include:

  • Providing transportation to families
  • Individualized Family Plans and meetings with families
  • Kitchen facilities for preparing and sharing meals
  • Special events and celebrations

Spiritual growth

A volunteer missionary provides support to parents in the area of spiritual growth. Activities include:

  • Bible study class (and support group)
  • Prayer corner
  • Daily staff devotions
  • Bible stories for the children

Personal Health

We have 2 licensed physical therapists, additional program staff and volunteers who provide therapy to children and train parents. Activities include:

  • Physical therapy sessions one or two times a week
  • Hippo/Equestrian therapy sessions one time a week
  • Referrals to external medical care (e.g. Neurologist, Optometrist)

Special Needs Education

We have 2 trained special educators and support staff who create and implement an individualized learning program for children and training for parents. Activities include:

  • Implementing personalized education plans
  • Teaching communication skills and basic literacy
  • Early intervention for children under 4 years of age
  • Practicing basic life-skills
  • Speech therapy training
  • Developing socialization in the children
  • Collaboration with families and schools

Economic Empowerment

Volunteers come to train family members in different skill areas. With these skills they are able to sell new products and improve opportunities for employment that will benefit their family income. Such areas include:

  • Sewing
  • Jewelry-making
  • Basic money management
  • English classes
  • Potential new activities include computer skills, beautician lessons, etc. as funds and volunteers are available
  • Paid work opportunities, such as cleaning, are also available in special circumstances

Staff training and development

We continuously seek to improve the professional skills of our staff, as well as nurture their spiritual growth. Activities include:

  • English classes
  • Occasional specialized training in new therapy techniques
  • Daily devotions and prayer
  • Trips abroad to learn from other programs

Funds, Resources and Networks

The on-going operation and growth of this ministry requires the proper management of existing funds and the development of new financial resources. Together Administration, Fundación El Samaritano and supporting organizations abroad are involved in:

  • Resource development
  • Donor relations and sponsorship
  • Distribution of material donations to families
  • Links to other organizations locally and abroad
